RICHMOND, In.--- The Asbury volleyball team (2-1) overcame a first-set loss to defeat the host-school Earlham College (2-1), in four sets to complete their weekend in Richmond, In., at the Earlham Invitational.
The match started off rocky for Asbury as they fell 18-25 in the first set but quickly turned the tide in the second, narrowly edging out Earlham 28-26. The subsequent sets saw the Eagles maintaining their momentum, winning 25-21 and 26-24, demonstrating a robust defense and aggressive attack strategies.
Key players shone brightly in the clutch, with freshman equine major
Isabelle VandeSchraaf leading the charge with a remarkable career-highs of 24 digs and 19 kills. She completed her opening weekend of college volleyball with 46 kills.
Asbury was supported by significant contributions from elementary educaiton major
Emma Grace Gray (15) and freshman exercise science major
Abigail Bruner (13) combining for 28 kills. Bruner also had three blocks to lead AU.
Junior biology pre-med major
Lucy Kate Gray recorded a season-high 46 assists, as well as a team-high two service aces.
AU volleyball head coach
Tiffany Horton reflected on the victory, stating, "This is an exciting look to the beginning of our new era. The girls showed great tenacity and we are proud!"
The Eagles are now preparing to host Kentucky State on September 4th in Wilmore, Ky., as they look to build on their current record of 2-1.
