WILMORE, Ky.---The Asbury volleyball squad (3-1) showcased their early-season strides on the court with a strong 3-1 victory over the Kentucky State Thoroughbreds (0-1) at the Luce Center. This NCAA match saw the Eagles strengthen their season record to an impressive 3-1.
Displaying a robust team performance, the Eagles commenced the match with convincing wins in the first two sets, both ending with a score of 25-17. Despite a setback in the third set, where they fell 21-25 to the Thoroughbreds, AU rallied back in the fourth set, sealing their win with an impressive 25-12 score. The match victory was underpinned by strategic plays and significant contributions from several key players.
Isabelle VandeSchraaf led the charge with an outstanding performance, marking crucial kills and aces that energized the team and the home crowd. Alongside VandeSchraaf,
Sophie Glushchak and
Emma Grace Gray were pivotal in the offense, registering significant kills throughout the match. The defensive efforts were bolstered by
Abigail Bruner and
Riley McChord, with McChord also contributing notable aces that altered the match's momentum at critical junctures.
