BARBOURVILLE, Ky.--- Asbury volleyball (3-2) dropped the Friday night matchup with Union Commonwealth University (2-7) in Barbourville, Ky., despite junior media communication major
Riley McChord setting a season-high 17 digs.
The Eagles came out strong on the road, winning the first set 25-16 by achieving 13 kills at a .370 hitting percentage.
Emma Grace Gray led the set with multiple kills and a service ace.
This promising start transitioned into a series of challenges in the subsequent sets, as Union Commonweealth recovered from the early loss. The Bulldogs won three consecutive sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-17), leveraging their robust defense and consistent attacks.
Notable performances came from Asbury players including
Isabelle VandeSchraaf, who led with seven kills, followed closely by
Sophie Glushchak with six kills, and
Abigail Bruner contributing five kills along with a match-high three blocks.
McChord led in both digs with 17 and aces with three. The Eagles also saw
Lucy Kate Gray providing crucial support with 17 assists, enabling significant plays throughout the match.
Asbury's season record moves to 3-2, as the Eagles look forward to two home matches next week on Wednesday (Berea) and Thursday night (Lindsey Wilson) in the Luce Center.
