WILMORE, Ky.--- Asbury volleyball (4-2) secured a fourth win of their first six matches on Wednesday night in the Luce Center, taking a reverse sweep over the Berea College Mountaineers (1-6) in a non-conference matchup, 3-1.
The match opened with Berea outpacing Asbury in the first set, but the Eagles responded, securing the subsequent sets with scores of 25-15, 25-11, and 25-17. Asbury used their highest service-ace amount over the past two seasons with 14 aces to power the comeback.
Senior education major
Emma Grace Gray led the offense with a powerful 15 kills, complemented by her significant contributions of 11 digs and three service aces. Asbury's defensive efforts were highlighted by
Lucy Kate Gray and
Riley McChord, who recorded 14 and 13 digs, respectively.
Lucy Kate Gray excelled in setting up AU kills, providing 40 assists throughout the match, a pivotal role that boosted the team's offensive execution. Asbury's blocking was efficiently handled by
McKenna Rumage,
Abigail Bruner, and
Isabelle VandeSchraaf, each contributing two blocks.
Asbury's precision was particularly noteworthy in the third set, where they hit a stunning .552 percentage, setting the stage for a dominating performance in the latter half of the match.
Following this victory, Asbury's record stands at an encouraging 4-2 as they look ahead to their next challenge against Lindsey Wilson College on Thursday night at 7 pm, in Wilmore.
"We were struggling with the little things initially, but Coach Horton encouraged us to play our game. She brought us together and allowed us to get in our groove for the final three sets."
