Mayes Honored With Paul & Carolyn Berry Award at NCCAA Hall of Fame Banquet

GREENVILLE, SC. --- The National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) recently honored Asbury Women's Basketball Coach Chad Mayes as the 2024 Paul & Carolyn Berry Men's Staff Award recipient at the Hall of Fame Banquet. The award aims to honor an NCCAA Staff Member who shows integrity through sports with a Christ-like approach to impact society, and uses sports to further the gospel of Christ and the development of life-long relationships. Chad Mayes Award

Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and University Communications Mark Whitworth said, "Coach Mayes is one of the most committed and servant-minded leaders I have ever been around. His interaction and involvement extend well beyond the women's basketball team or the athletics department. Coach Mayes has earned the trust and respect of many on campus, from students and administrators, faculty, and staff."

Mayes enters his seventh season as head coach of the Asbury women's basketball program in 2024-2025. Mayes has brought AU to three consecutive NCCAA National Tournaments, while winning the 2023 NCCAA Mideast Region Championship and being named 2023 NCCAA Mideast Coach of the Year.

On top of the on-court success, Coach Mayes also serves as the Mission Trip Coordinator for Asbury Athletics and works with the LYNC8 Project, bringing multiple teams to Puerto Rico every summer. Mayes does not just bring Asbury teams on this trip but has expanded his mission to leading teams across the United States on trips to Puerto Rico.

"Coach Mayes faith is his bearing," said Asbury Faculty Athletic Representative and Assistant Professor of Accounting Emily Walsh. "Faith exudes from him, and he is passionate about others experiencing the love of Christ through athletics cross-culturally."

"Chad's goal is not only for the people of Puerto Rico to be blessed, but also the members of each team as they reflect the faith that Chad and his wife Chandi show," said Asbury Men's Basketball Coach Will Shouse.
