Eagles Celebrate Gray on Senior Night; Take 21st Win into Postseason

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- Freshman equine science major Isabelle VandeSchraaf had her 14th double-double of the season to lead Asbury volleyball (21-6, 15-1 CCS) to a sweep over Kentucky Christian (2-24, 2-17 MSC) in their last regular season match of the season on Wednesday's Senior Night in Wilmore, Ky.

Asbury senior elementary education major Emma Grace Gray was celebrated on Senior Night for her contributions to the AU volleyball program. "It's a privilege to compete, a privilege to represent Christ on the court, so don't take any of it for granted and hold your team close because they are your sisters for life", said Gray in her wisdom to the team.

The five-foot-ten outside hitter from Lexington, Ky., finished her career with 833 total kills and 684 total digs. In her final season for Asbury she is 7th in CCS at 2.59 kills per set, 5th in points per set at 3.14, and 9th at .48 aces per set, holding 39 on the year.

VandeSchraaf's outstanding performance included a game-high 17 kills and also 11 digs. The Eagles took an early lead by winning the first set 25-14. Their momentum didn't wane as they closed the following sets 25-15 and 25-20, respectively, sweeping the match in straight sets against the Knights.

Junior Sidney Haysley and freshman Kaylen Wilson were behind VandeSchraaf with four kills apiece. VandeSchraaf and freshman Amelia Mays also produced three service aces while Lucy Kate Gray had two aces. Gray also had a game-high 20 assists for her 14th match this season with 20 or more assists.

CCS Defensive Player of the Week had a game-high 15 digs for AU, while sophomore Lauran Barber had six digs. Sophomore McKenna Rumage had a team-high two blocks for Asbury.

The Eagles had 11 or more kills in all three sets and produced 11 service aces as a team while holding KCU to one ace.

Looking ahead, the Eagles move into the postseason as they will host the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament in Wilmore, Ky., on November 15 and 16. AU will play in the semifinals on Friday night at 6 pm against the winner of No. 4 Belhaven and No. 5 Huntingdon.
