Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Muncie and Carpenter Lift Eagles Over Covenant, Into CCS Semifinals

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.--- In their program CCS Conference Tournament debut, the Asbury women's soccer team (8-5-5, 4-2-2) claimed a high-intense 2-0 victory over the Covenant Scots (9-6-1, 5-2-1) in Lookout Mountain's Scotland Yard on Saturday afternoon. The win, fueled by standout performances and strategic gameplay, propels the Eagles into the CCS semifinals on Wednesday.

The Eagles set the tone early in the game, with first-team all conference selection Hannah Muncie scoring the first goal at the 19:17 mark (9th of season), assisted by graduate student Peighton Sowder. This crucial moment not only put Asbury ahead but also positioned Muncie as the game-winning scorer. As the match progressed, psychology major Emily Carpenter doubled the advantage with a decisive goal at 45:27 (3rd of season), securing a comfortable lead for the Eagles.

Throughout the game, Asbury's defense remained impenetrable, thanks in large part to goalkeeper Maliya Crump, who completed the match with three saves and celebrated a well-deserved shutout. Crump's performance led to her eighth clean sheet of the season.

Despite being out-shot by the Scots 11-6, the Eagles were able to land five on goal compared to Covenant's three.

The Scots dominated set-piece opportunities, earning six corner kicks to Asbury's lone single attempt, allowing them multiple chances to build pressure. The physicality was evident, with Covenant committing twice as many fouls as Asbury, tallying up to 10 fouls against Asbury's five.

The team's current season record stands at 8-5-5 overall, with a 4-2-2 mark in conference play, reflecting their resilience and competitive edge as they advance deeper into the postseason.
