MARYVILLE, Tn.--- No. 5 Asbury women's soccer (8-6-5, 4-2-2) came up short in Maryville, Tn., on Wednesday night to No. 1 Maryville College (12-2-4, 8-0-0), 4-2.

The game started on a high note for the Eagles with Caroline Preston scoring her fifth goal of the season, putting Asbury in the lead with the first score. The first half was dominated by tight plays and ended with a 1-0 score favoring the Eagles. However, the Scots made a powerful comeback in the second half, with Maryville's Sierra Lee turning the game around with a striking hat trick.

The Eagles, despite strong efforts, could not maintain their lead. Maggie Perry, who along with scoring for Asbury, received a yellow card, showcased her skills with key passes and stellar back-line defense. Assists from Peighton Sowder and Reese Bolton, who each assisted once, provided AU with opportunities to balance the scale, but it was Maryville's consistent pressure that ultimately shaped the game's outcome.

In goal, Maliya Crump demonstrated resilience throughout the match slowing down the potent attack from the No.1 seeded Scots, who challenged the Eagles' defense significantly. Crump came away with three saves. With this loss, Asbury's season record now stands at 8-6-5, with a conference tally of 4-2-2.

AU will look forward to the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Mideast Region Tournament update to continue their 2024 season.
