Asbury Reaches 20 Wins with CCS Tri-Match Sweep


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
MONTGOMERY, Al.--- The Asbury volleyball team (20-6, 15-1 CCS) won their 19th and 20th matches of the season to double their win amount for the second consecutive year on Saturday in Montgomery, Al., with victories over Huntingdon College (12-19, 8-7 CCS) and Piedmont University (6-17, 6-9 CCS). 

AU first faced the Huntingdon Hawks in a tough five-set battle, winning 3-2 with set scores of 13-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-13, 15-12. Following this close match, the Eagles' momentum didn't falter as they swept the Piedmont Lions in straight sets (25-19, 25-17, 25-16).

The two wins complete Asbury's Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Regular Season Championship at a 15-1 record. The Eagles will host the final two rounds of the CCS Touranment in Wilmore, Ky., on November 15 and 16. 

Asbury had their most kills and assists in a match this season in the five-set win over Huntingdon with 66 kills and 64 assists. The Eagles followed the match up with their second highest hitting percentage of the year, hitting .354 percent in the sweep over Piedmont. 

AU freshman Kaylen Wilson had a career-high 12 kills against Piedmont in game two, hitting at an efficient .478 percentage. Junior Sidney Haysley followed with eight kills in game one and nine in game two, and a .444 hitting percentage in the second game.

CCS Rookie of the Week Isabelle VandeSchraaf had 28 kills with 31 digs on the day, including 20 kills and 22 digs in game one for her 13th double-double of the season. Emma Dean had a career-high nine kills in the first match while Sophie Glushchak also collected nine kills. 

Defensively for Asbury, junior Riley McChord stood out with 19 and 21 digs (40 total). Junior Lucy Kate Gray surged for a career-high six aces in game one with 38 assists against Huntingdon. She also had 24 assists against Piedmont for 62 total on the day. 

Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to host their last regular season match against Kentucky Christian University on their home court in Wilmore, Ky., Wednesday at 7 pm for Senior Night.
