
WILMORE, Ky.--- Asbury women's basketball (1-1, 0-0 CCS) sophomore elementary education major Emily Sizemore scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Eagles past Schreiner University (1-2, 0-0) for their first win of the season on Friday afternoon in Wilmore, Ky., 70-50.
Sizemore, the five-foot-seven guard from London, Ky., went 6-8 from the field and 2-2 from three. She also had four rebounds, three assists, and three steals in her second game at Asbury.
The Eagles forced Schreiner into 36 turnovers, the most Asbury's defense has accumulated against an opponent since December 28, 2021. AU had 19 steals, led by senior guard Haleigh Releford with four steals.
The first half ended with Asbury leading 30-26, setting the stage for a strong second half for AU. Graduate student Celia Pelfrey had a season-high 18 points on 7-12 shooting, knocking down four three-pointers.
Senior forward Camryn Preston also had a season-high 17 points, including three rebounds. Sophomore Ma'Kiya West went 5-10 for seven points alongside five boards and three assists.
Asbury outscored Schreiner 40-24 in the second half. The Eagles used 15 fast break points and held Schreiner to five on the game.
AU will host Centre College in the next matchup on Monday night in Wilmore, Ky., at 6 pm.
