
WILMORE, Ky.--- Sophomore education major Emily Sizmore scored a team-high 17 points on Monday night, as the Asbury women's basketball squad (2-1, 0-0 CCS) defeated Centre College (4-1, 0-0 SAA) in a thriller, 61-60.
The London, Ky., native's 17 came off an efficient pace shooting 8-13 from the field, she also added three rebounds, and three assists.
The Eagles forced the Colonels into 20 turnovers, marking the third straight game where AU turned their opponent over at least 20 times.
The game was marked by extreme competitiveness, and had both teams battling closely throughout, leading to a halftime score of 32-31 in favor of Asbury. The game concluded with the Eagles holding their breath in the final moments, securing the win on the final possession with a defensive stop.
Centre was led in scoring by Bailey Rucker, who impressed with a performance of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Asbury's Camryn Preston contributed significantly with 12 points, rounding off the top scorers for the Eagles.
Celia Pelfrey and Camryn Poole both poured in seven points for the Eagles.
As the season progresses, the Eagles look forward, aiming to build on their winning momentum of the last two games.
Asbury next travels to the Lauren Hill Classic in Cincinnati, Oh., to take on Franklin College on Friday at 7 PM.
