CINCINNATI, Oh.--- On Friday night the Asbury women's basketball team (2-2, 0-0 CCS) traveled to compete in the annual Lauren Hill Classic hosted by Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati. Taking on Franklin College (3-1, 0-0 HCAC), AU fell 89-70 in the first game of a back to back.

Asbury was paced by senior's Camryn Preston and Haleigh Releford, scoring 13 and 11 points respectively. Preston added six rebounds and three steals, while Releford knocked down three 3PT's and garnered two steals of her own.

Franklin was led by Jordan Coon who scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Behind her, the Grizzlies' Taylor Cooney added 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

The Grizzlies used a hot first quarter to jump out to a 24-8 lead after quarter one. The Eagles clawed back in the second using a 22-19 quarter to go into the half trailing  30-43 at halftime. Franklin College came out swinging in the third quarter outscoring AU 29-16, and ultimately pulling away to a 89-70 win. 

Franklin out-rebounded AU 47-32 and shot an impressive 52% from the field for the game. Both teams turned the ball over 16 times, AU grabbing one more steal than FC. 

Asbury outshot the Grizzlies from beyond the arc, shooting 10-29 from 3 PT (35%), Franklin shooting 3-14 (21%).

AU contributions also came from players Emily Sizemore and Juleigh Anne Tucker who both impressed. Sizemore stuffed the stat sheet and shot an efficient 3-3 from the field, scoring eight points, grabbing five boards, and dishing four assists. Tucker rained in three 3 PTs and grabbed two boards.


Asbury will have a quick turnaround, taking on MSJ on Saturday at 1 PM in game two of the Lauren Hill Classic in Cincinnati, Oh.
