Asbury Sweeps Belhaven & Agnes Scott to Reach 12-1 CCS Record


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- The Asbury volleyball team (17-6, 12-1 CCS) took two 3-0 sweeps on their home court in Wilmore, Ky., on Saturday afternoon over Belhaven University (10-13, 8-4 CCS), and Agnes Scott (3-17, 1-12 CCS) to earn a 12-1 start to their Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) career. 

In the first game against Belhaven, the Eagles set the tone with commanding set scores of 25-14, 25-22, and 25-23. They maintained their momentum in the match against Agnes Scott, winning with set scores of 25-10, 25-10, and 25-14. These victories hold Asbury's position at No. 1 in the CCS. 

AU had seven total aces and 36 kills in game one against Belhaven compared to the two aces and 27 kills from the Blazers. AU hit for their fourth highest percentage of the season against Agnes Scott at .277 percent. 

Freshman Isabelle VandeSchraaf and senior Emma Grace Gray led the Eagles with 25 and 16 kills on the day. VandeSchraaf hit at .295 and .316 percent in the matches while Gray hit a .350 percentage against Agnes Scott.

Kaylen Wilson, Emma Dean, and Megan Schelling each contributed with crucial blocks for AU on the day. The defensive efforts were bolstered by Riley McChord's standout performance with 17 digs in game one and 15 in game two for 32 total, adding four aces in game two as well. 

Notably, junior Lucy Kate Gray excelled with five aces in game one, accompanied by her remarkable 22 assists. Sophomore Isabella Brewer had a season-high nine assists in game two. 

Looking forward, Asbury is set to face the No. 2 team in the CCS, Maryville College on Tuesday night in Wilmore at 7 pm.
