Asbury Sweeps LaGrange and Wesleyan to Stay Perfect in CCS

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
DECATUR, Ga.--- Asbury volleyball (15-5, 10-0 CCS) took their undefeated stretch in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) to 10 games on Saturday afternoon in Decatur, Ga., as the Eagles swept LaGrange (6-16, 3-8 CCS) and Wesleyan (2-13, 1-9 CCS) in six straight sets.

Asbury opened their offensive success early against LaGrange, taking the initial set 25-14. They maintained this momentum with a repeat performance in the second set and clinched the match with a 25-19 win in the third set.

A similar pattern emerged for AU against Wesleyan (GA), where the Eagles won the first set 25-14, overcame a slight push-back in the second set to win 25-16, and closed with a dominant 25-13 in the third set.

AU freshman three-time CCS Rookie of the Week Isabelle VandeSchraaf had 25 kills on the day and hit for a .706 percentage against Wesleyan. Freshman Sophie Glushchak and senior Emma Grace Gray also contributed significantly with seven and six kills as single-game performances.

The defensive efforts for AU were led by freshman Megan Schelling with five total blocks on the day, including a career-high four blocks against LaGrange. Additionally, Emma Grace Gray delivered four aces, adding to the tally alongside freshman Amelia Mays and Schelling who had multiple aces.

Lucy Kate Gray led AU in assists with 16 in game one and nine in game two. Sara Beth Gray had a team-high 11 assists in the second match. A specific highlight was a series of effective aces by Sara Beth Gray and Amelia Mays, which were instrumental in scoring bursts that powered the two-match sweep.

Looking forward, the Eagles are set to face the reigning CCS Champions, Covenant College (13-12, 7-4 CCS) on Thursday night on the road in Lookout Mountain, Ga. After the two wins on Saturday, Asbury stays at No. 1 in the CCS with a perfect 10-0 record.
