Walden's 12 Kills Lead Asbury Over Olivet, Gray Dishes 42 Assists


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
TERRE HAUTE, In.--- Megan Walden's 12 kills on Saturday night led Asbury volleyball (6-8) over The University of Olivet, after falling earlier in the day to Grove City College in the Rose-Hulman Invitational.

Walden had a total of 40 kills combined in Asbury's four matches in two days in the Invitational. Lucy Kate Gray had her second highest assist game of the season against Olivet with 42. 

For the second day in a row Riley McChord had two games with 20-plus digs, this time going for 21 in both. Macie Pack had her second highest kill mark of the year against Olivet (12). 

In the fourth and final match of the weekend Asbury hit for a .275 percentage and committed only 12 errors. 

Game One | ASBURY 0, GROVE CITY 3
Asbury started the day with four straight points against Grove City, but gave up a five point swing deep into the match to go down 11-16. AU scored five of the next seven points to get within two but then allowed Grove City to score six straight that led to their 25-18 win.

Another early Asbury lead was powered by multiple kills from Megan Walden, Macie Pack, and Emma Grace Gray to go ahead 10-8. Later in the set, Grove City scored seven of eight points to go ahead 24-17 tha eventually led to their second set win. 

In the third set Grove City took an early 5-1 lead they carried through the rest of the set. AU fell to Grove City 10-25 in the third set to fall in the match, 0-3. 

Game Two | ASBURY 3 , THE UNIVERSITY OF OLIVET 0
The University of Olivet took an early 10-5 lead in the first set, but AU responded with a 10-3 run that gave the Eagles a 15-13 advantage. Olivet scored three straight points late in the set to go up 21-19, but Asbury responded with three straight points including two kills from Megan Walden

The set went into extra points until Macie Pack helped lead Asbury over Olivet with a late kill, 27-25. 

AU came out scorching in the second set to take a 17-3 lead. The Eagles went on to score 25 points while only allowing seven from Olivet, going up 2-0 in the match. 

Asbury's offense continued to click in the third set, going up 9-2 early. Olivet made a strong push to get back into the set with multiple kills to get the game to 20-17, Asbury. Olivet tied things at 23-23 but another Macie Pack kill and Olivet errors led Asbury to the 26-24 win for their sixth win of the season. 

With the split doubleheader Asbury moves to 6-8 overall on the year.
