Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Scoreless Match Against Transy Results in Eagles Third Draw, French Earns Third Clean Sheet

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LEXINGTON, Ky. --- The Asbury men's soccer team (3-2-3) traveled to back-yard rival, Transylvania University (1-3-3) for a Tuesday night contest with the Pioneers. Although 26 shots were put up by both teams, neither could find the back of the net, resulting in a scoreless match for Asbury's third draw of the season.

Asbury keeper Peyton French was crucial in the outcome of Tuesday night's matchup. From nine shots faced, French recorded seven saves against the Pioneers, a season-high for him. French now has collected three clean sheets for the Eagles this season.

The remaining two shots taken by Transy were blocked by AU defenders, Jon Gordon and Yousef Ismail

Transylvania Keeper Nolan Vantz was active as well, grabbing three saves on the night.

Luke Thomas and Dalton Fleshood were key players in Asbury's offensive efforts on the night. Thomas and Fleshood each recorded two shots with one on goal. Asbury combined for a total of 10 shots with three of them on goal.

Transylvania began the match with six shots in the first 17 minutes, four of them being on goal and all stopped by French and AU defenders. Asbury found momentum of their own with help from Luke Thomas, Gavin Howard, and Austin Dunlap all aiding to the Eagles four shots for the first half.

Despite the Pioneer's high-press style of play, Asbury was intent on creating chances in the second. Luke Thomas was inches away from the game-winning goal when he fired a shot that made it past Transylvania's keeper, forcing a defender to make a goal-line clearance.

In the 78th minute, Asbury was right next to the one goal they needed, with Ryan Kim hitting the crossbar and having the ball land on the goal line before bouncing out.

Both teams put up double-digit shots on the night, but neither was able to find the net. For the second season in a row, the two programs finished in a tie, after finishing the 2022 contest 2-2 in Wilmore, Ky.

AU finished the match with their third draw of the season, moving to 3-2-3.
