WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury men's soccer team took on Earlham College at home on Saturday evening for their fourth competition of the week. The Eagles displayed impressive offensive and defensive efforts to record their second clean sheet of the season. Asbury took the victory in a 2-0 match, giving AU their third straight win.
Austin Dunlap and
Luke Thomas were AU's leaders, both contributing to the victory with a goal each. Dunlap led the board with three shots and two on goal, Thomas right behind him with two shots, both on goal.
Sophomore
Ben Davis aided in Asbury's offensive power, recording his first two shots of the season against Earlham.
Freshman keeper
Peyton French continued to stand tall in the box, recording two saves and his second clean sheet for the Eagles.
Austin Dunlap began the press for the Eagles, getting a shot in the 12th minute that hit the crossbar but wasn't able to find the net. Transfer from Daytona State,
Dalton Fleshood played a high cross-in and it was Dunlap who would find the net off a left-foot flick, giving AU a 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the match.
As the Eagles continued their high press,
Luke Thomas would be the next to find the back of the next, from an assist by
Alexis Petatan. Thomas' goal, his first of the season, gave AU a strong 2-0 lead 22 minutes into the first.
Asbury out-shot Earlham 8-4 and grabbed seven corners, compared to Earlham's one for the match.
The Quakers began to pick up the pace in the second and controlled possession at the beginning of the half. Earlham was able to tally two shots on goal, both saved by
Peyton French.
Despite late efforts by the Quakers, Asbury's defense remained intact and held Earlham scoreless resulting in AU's third win of the season in a 2-0 match.
