Haysley Leads Asbury Over Kentucky State for Fifth Win


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- Asbury sophomore hitter Sidney Haysley had 16 kills while hitting .333 to lead AU (5-4) past Kentucky State in Wilmore, Ky., on Wednesday night for their home opener, 3-1. 

Haysley, a sophomore transfer student from the University of Pittsburg-Greensboro now has 16 kills in her last two matches. She also had five service aces, taking her team-lead in service aces on the year to 17.

Emma Grace Gray had nine kills of her own for Asbury on the night, keeping a slight lead over Haysley in total kills for AU, 103 to 98. Sophomore Megan Walden was close behind Gray with eight kills after her strong 11 kill performance against Sewanee last weekend. 

Lucy Kate Gray continued her assists dominance, dishing 37 on the night to take her to 303 in nine matches. She sits at fifth in the entire NCCAA in total assists. 

Sophomore Riley McChord had 19 digs on the night, giving her 35 in her last two matches. 

Set-by-Set Recap 

Set One

AU came out aggressive in the first set, taking an early 8-3 lead that led to an 18-6 advantage. Kentucky State responded with an 11-3 run, bring the match to 21-17, AU. 

Kills from McKenna Rumage and Emma Grace Gray gave Asbury the boost they needed for a 25-18 wijn to go up 1-0. 

Set Two
In the second set Asbury came out firing once again, scoring four of the first five points and then taking a 7-0 run to go up 16-6. AU continued to click offensively, finishing the match on a Taylor Sobieck kill to win 25-12 and go up 2-0. 

Set Three
Kentucky State responded in the third set with impressive play that gave them an early 17-6 advantage. AU fought back with a 9-1 run that brought the score to 18-5, Kentucky State. 

Set Three
In the fourth set AU found their stride once again, taking a 25-14 win to secure the match. 

With the win Asbury moves to 5-4 on the season and 1-0 on their home court.
