CINCINNATI, Oh. --- The Asbury men's soccer team continued on the road Tuesday night to take on Mount St. Joseph in a 7 PM matchup. In a matchup that had a lot of second-half activity, AU came out on top for their second win of the season, 3-2.
Freshman sport management major
Jason Flaming led the board for AU, recording seven shots with three on goal. Flaming was able to put a goal away, being one of Asbury's three-goal scorers against MSJ.
Cameron Johnson and
Austin Dunlap aided AU's offense, both recording their second goals of the season on Tuesday night.
Luke Thomas and
Salat Kipterit helped in AU's second-half push, combining for eight shots and five on goal.
Asbury began the match recording six shots in the first ten minutes, four of them coming from
Jason Flaming. Despite the Eagles outshooting the Lions 11-2, Asbury could not put a goal away and the first half ended 0-0.
Just four minutes into the second half,
Cameron Johnson got things going for Asbury by putting his second goal away in three games, this time assisted by
Jason Flaming.
MSJ quickly found their momentum and retaliated with a goal four minutes later, tying things 1-1.
MSJ continued to press and scored another goal just five minutes after their first, giving them a 2-1 lead. Two minutes later,
Jason Flaming tied things up once again, putting his first career goal away, assisted by
Nick Clark.
AU captain
Austin Dunlap, with his only shot of the night, decided to put AU's final goal away, giving Asbury a 3-2 lead they didn't let up. Despite the second-half pressure turning up with six yellow cards and 14 fouls across both teams, Asbury steadily held onto their lead and grabbed their second victory of the season in a 3-2 match.
Asbury recorded an impressive 22 shots and 10 corners against MSJ, both season-highs for the team.
After Tuesday's win, AU moves to 2-2-1.
