Asbury Shines to Complete NCCAA Nationals; Personal Records and Top Ten Finishes


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
COLUMBIA, SC. --- Multiple top ten finishes, personal records, and a 15th overall men's team performance led the way for Asbury track and field as they completed the NCCAA Track and Field Championships on Friday in Columbia, SC.

Junior Wes Preston started the day for AU with an incredible sixth place finish in the 5000 meter run at 16:06.62, giving his team three points. 

Mary Hostetter (1:03.66) and Sam Webb (52.25) both produced personal record times in the men's and women's 400, Hostetter finishing 15th overall and Webb 24th.  
NCCAA Track and Field Nationals
A highlight on the day for Asbury was their stellar performance in the men's 4 x 400 relay. Sam Webb led off the event with a spit 54.1 time, handing the baton off to Luke Holton maneuvered through traffic to mark the fastest lap of his life at 51.5.

Davis Brown followed with his fast lap ever at 50.3, setting the stage for Luke Wheatley's anchor leg. Wheatley sped around the track in a incredible 49.7 seconds to come from forty yards back to catch Concordia University Ann-Arbor in his final strides to win the heat. 

The Asbury men's 4 x 400 relay team's final time of 3:25.76 was their of the season by three seconds, and the fastest Asbury relay since the school record was set in 1976. The faster section followed the Eagles heat with five teams bettering their time, leaving them in sixth place in the final results.

The AU men's track and field team finished 15th out of 21 schools who managed to score in the championship competition.
