Preston and Durrance Set School Records; Track and Field Finishes 2023 Regular Season

RICHMOND, Ky.--- Junior Wes Preston and sophomore Will Durrance set new school records while eight Eagles marked season best performances at the Eastern Kentucky University Invitational to complete the 2023 Asbury track and field regular season.

In head coach O'Brian Bridges' first year on Asbury's campus the Eagles left much reason for excitement, producing multiple NCCAA Nationals Qualifiers and continued school-records meet after meet. With phase one of the Asbury Outdoor Venue planned to be complete by the coming fall semester and more phases to come after, Asbury track and field is set for continued progress.

NCCAA Cross Country All-American Wes Preston set an impressive Asbury school record this weekend in the 5000 meter run at 15:34.09. The record was previously 15:42.5 set by Asbury Athletics Hall of Famer Neil Butler in 1987.
Another Cross Country All-American Will Durrance set a school record in the 1500 meter run at 4:03.75, breaking the record of 4:06.8 set earlier this spring by his freshman teammate Davis Brown.

Eight different Eagles were a part of producing season best times in the two-day event in Richmond, Ky. See a full list of the performances below.

Asbury track and field members Will Durrance, Wes Preston, Luke Wheatley, and Davis Brown will compete this upcoming weekend in the University of Kentucky Invitational.
The four runners above including Mary Hostetter, Katherine Stanley, Carolina Trumpower have also qualified for NCCAA Nationals thorughout their 2023 season. Sam Webb and Luke Holton will also compete at Nationals as a part of the relay teams for Asbury.

The National Christian College Athletics Association Nationals will be held in Columbia, SC, on May 10-12.

"This was a good season ending meet for most of the athletes. We have just practiced a couple days a week on the West Jessamine track but still achieved several school records and many excellent performances this spring. With the "official" launch of Track & Field next year and our new facility to practice on, we are expecting great things in the future."
