MOUNT BERRY, Ga.--- Asbury men's and women's track and field had another Saturday breaking multiple school records in their first year returned as a program led by first year head coach O'Brian Bridges. AU competed in the Victor Icebreaker Duals Meet hosted by Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga.
Among many highlights on the day, freshman
Davis Brown (1500m) and junior
Wes Preston (5000m) punched their tickets to the NCCAA Outdoor Championships with impressive performances.
Brown set another school record for Asbury, this time in the 1500 that was previously held by Tim Bartholomew set in 1981 (4:09.2). Brown, a freshman media communications major from Ashland, Ky., ran a 4:06.80 on Saturday to set the new Asbury record in the 1500.
Preston ran the best 5000m time in Asbury University history, 15:52.10. Preston is coming off a fall cross-country season for AU where he earned the honor of being an NCCAA All-American.
Freshman dual-sport athlete (women's soccer)
Mary Hostetter set new Asbury school records in the 100 (13.25) and 200 (27.67). Hostetter also ran the the fastest relay leg split of the 4 x 400 relay.
Cameron Tapp and
Katherine Stanley both had excellent performances for AU in the 1500 as well, Tapp running 4:26.34 and Stanley 5:22.32.
The men's 4 x 400 relay team was fantastic, finishing in third place with a 3:28.31 overall time powered by
Sam Webb,
Luke Holton,
Davis Brown, and
Luke Wheatley. Webb ran a strong 400 while Wheatley ran the anchor leg to complete the third place finish.
In the team scores see if you can search around and find how we did in the dual meet competition. There are the overall team scores, which we didn't have enough people to place well in, but they also scored us in a duel meet competition against a couple of other schools, who also had small rosters.
In Asbury's first two meets of 2023 the Eagles have already set multiple school records to begin the season. The early success combined with ongoing construction of the new Outdoor Venue and head coach O'Brian Bridges continues to stir incredible excitement around the program.

"The excitement of having track and field at Asbury was on display with how the athletes competed this weekend. The team had a lot of strong performances paced by three school records. Davis Brown set a new school record in the men's 1500m run. Also, Mary Hostetter broke both the women's 100m and 200m dash records. Davis (1500m) and Wes Preston (5000m) already punched their ticket to the NCCAA Outdoor Championships with their performances. I'm excited for the way we started and look to use this as a spring board for the program as we move forward!
