Asbury Three Game Winning Streak Snapped, Slip on the Road to UC-Clermont


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
BATAVIA, Oh.--- In a Wednesday night road matchup at the University of Cincinnati-Clermont (16-6), Asbury (16-6) fell short for only the sixth time this season, 80-97. 

UC-Clermont went 11-26 from three, shooting over 42 percent from distance to provide 33 of their points. The Cougars also controlled the glass, outrebounding Asbury 40-31 on the night. 

Asbury's offense was hindered by the UC-Clermont defense, committing a season-high 21 turnovers. UC-Clermont only committed seven. 

AU made five threes on the night, almost five under their average of 9.8 made threes per game. 

Nick Fort led the way for Asbury, scoring a game-high 24 points (9-19 FG) with six rebounds and three steals. Fort leads the nation in the NCCAA in scoring (24.4 PPG) and rebounding (11 RPG). 

Dakota Walden followed Fort with 17 points (8-14 FG) of his own and an impressive eight rebounds. Sophomore Ben McNew was the other Eagle in double-digits with 12 points, also grabbing three rebounds. 

UC-Clermont's David Froedge led in scoring with 22 points, five made threes, and seven rebounds. Joel Iles also had a strong game with 21 points on 7-12 shooting, five made threes, and four rebounds. 

Both teams were solid at the free-throw line, Asbury going 15-19 and UC-Clermont going 18-24. 

The AU offense experienced a challenging first half, only scoring 34 points. UC-Clermont put up 44 points in the half, heading into the break with a ten point advantage over Asbury.

In the second half Asbury picked up offensively, scoring 46 points in the half. AU went 30-62 from the field on the night, shooting 48.4 percent overall. 

UC-Clermont continued their offensive success in the second half, putting up 53 points to seal their home win over Asbury, 80-97. 

Asbury moves to 16-6 overall on the season after their three game winning streak being snapped on Wednesay night. The Eagles have only one regular season game remaining, coming on Friday night at 7 pm at Campbellsville-Harrodsburg.
