Eagles Slip to No. 15 Transylvania on the Road

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LEXINGTON, Ky.--- One day after Asbury volleyball (7-10) defeated Ohio Christian in a late night matchup on their home court, the Eagles traveled to Lexington, Ky., on Wednesday and slipped to No. 15 Transylvania, 0-3.

AU met a strong Transylvania team that has now won five straight matches, dropping only one of their last 16 sets.

The Eagles were led by Emma Grace Gray (5), Megan Walden (4), and McKenna Rumage (4) on the night in kills. Lucy Kate Gray dished 16 assists (fourth in the NCCAA with a total of 553) and served an ace as well.

Transylvania was led offensively by Cate Scheper with 11 kills. Grace Ward, the reigning HCAC Offensive Player of the Week passed 29 assists.

Asbury's offense couldn't find their footing against the aggressive Transy defense, hitting their lowest percentage this season. Riley McChord led AU with nine digs while freshman Lauren Barber continues to chip in with five digs herself.

Set-by-Set Recap

Set One

Macie Pack had a nice early kill in the first set to tie the match at 2-2. Transylvania responded with a strong offensive push to grab an 11-4 lead. The Pioneers went on to take the first set, 25-10.

Set Two
McKenna Rumage and Megan Walden both had kills for the Eagles in the second set but Cate Scheper for Transy led them to another win, going up 2-0 in the match.

Set Three
Emma Grace Gray and McKenna Rumage kills brought AU within three at 5-8 early on in the third set. Macie Pack gave AU another kill backed up by a Lucy Kate Gray ace, keeping AU within three (9-12).

Asbury battled the entire third set against the No. 15 team in the country, receiving late kills from Rumage, Gray, Walden and Sidney Haysley. Transylvania's offense held on to take a 25-16 win, giving them the match.

The Eagles move to 7-10 on the season after meeting No. 15 Transylvania on their home court.
