WILMORE, Ky.--- Sophomores
Lucy Kate Gray and
Megan Walden each set career-highs on Tuesday night in the Luce Center to lead Asbury volleyball (7-9) past Ohio Christian (8-10), 3-1.
Gray dished 53 assists on the night to reach her career-high at Asbury by one assist. In her freshman season she had a 52-assist night at Rio Grande. Gray sits at fourth in the NCCAA in total assists with 537 and seventh in assists in a game at 53.
Walden set her career-high in kills with 17 to lead both teams, hitting at .350 in the match. Lauren Barber also set a season-high for her freshman campaign with 13 digs.
Riley McChord led AU defensively with 21 digs, her eighth match this season with 20 or more digs. McChord also had five service aces to lead both teams, a season-high for her.
Freshman
Macie Pack had 12 kills for AU, marking her fifth match with double-digit kills on the year.
AU hit a .203 percentage on the night for their fifth most efficient offensive match this season. The Eagles had 51 kills, OCU had 35.
Set-by-Set Recap
Set One
In the first set OCU took an early 4-1 lead, but AU responded with three straight kills by
Macie Pack,
Emma Grace Gray, and
Sidney Haysley to tie the match at four.
Asbury continued the momentum into an 18-13 lead heading into the end of the set. AU scored seven of the next nine points, powered by multiple
Macie Pack and
Megan Walden kills to take the first set, 25-15.
Set Two
After being ahead 7-6 early, Asbury used two
Megan Waldens kills for a huge 9-0 run to give them a 16-6 lead. The AU offense continued its pressure with another three-point swing led by
McKenna Rumage and Walden, leading to another 25-15 win, going up 2-0 in the match.
Set Three
OCU went ahead 10-5 early in the third set but Asbury came back with a 6-0 run powered by two kills apiece from Rumage and Walden, putting AU ahead 11-10.
In a back-and-forth set, OCU scored three straight to go up 20-18, but the Eagles answered right back with three to go up 21-20. OCU responded with five of the next seven point sto take the third set, 25-23.
Set Four
AU starting out the fourth set aggressively with the first three points that led into a 17-7 start. Two
Riley McChord service aces powered a four-point run that led into an Asbury 25-16 win to finish the match.
AU is now 7-9 on the season after an impressive win on their home court.
