
WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury volleyball traveled to Hanover, In., on Tuesday evening to matchup with Hanover College. Despite AU taking a heated back and forth first set, Hanover recovered to take the match win, 3-1.
Asbury came into the match ready to play on Hanover's home court, taking an early 9-3 lead in the first set. Hanover rallied back to take a 19-14 lead, but the Eagles made a late run of their own to still the first set of the match 25-23. Asbury outscored Hanover 11-4 in the final 15 points of the game to take the first set. Emma Grace Gray led AU with six kills in the set, Emily Janszen added to service aces, and Callie Goodwin finished the set with two consecutive kills.
In the second set it was Hanover recovering from the first set loss, coming out strong to take an early lead that Asbury couldn't recover from. Hanover took the second set over AU, 25-14.
The important third set took a Hanover swing early in the set when Hanover took a six point swing to take the 13-5 lead. Despite Asbury's efforts to get back in the game off multiple kills from Erin Sexauer and Emily Janszen, and Madi Bryant's service ace, Hanover continued to pour in points and took the set 25-15.
The fourth set saw another six point swing from Hanover, this time in the middle of the set taking the Panthers to a 14-7 lead. Asbury made a late surge toward the end of the set to keep their hopes alive after being down 13-20, the Eagles went on a 6-1 run to cut their deficit down to 19-21. The run was a team effort seeing kills from Emma Ingalls, Erin Sexauer, Emily Janszen, and Emma Grace Gray. Hanover managed to pick up the speed and score the next four points to take the set and match over Asbury, 3-1.
For a challenging road trip for the young Asbury squad, the Eagles put a good fight together against a challenging opponent. Asbury continues to take steps forward as they showed heart on the court tonight and continued growth. AU will look to build off this performance and will be seeking their stride as they move forward in this 2022 season.

Asbury will travel to Ohio Christian University this Friday night for a match at 7 pm.
