Volleyball Drops Road Match with Ohio Christian, McChord Season-High 27 Digs

CIRCLEVILLE, Oh. --- Asbury Volleyball battled with Ohio Christian University (OCU) on Friday night in a road matchup in Circleville, Oh. Ohio Christian managed to find their stride and take the final two sets to secure a 3-1 victory over AU.

Asbury had one more kill than OCU at 52-51, but OCU led the evening in aces with six compared to Asbury's one. Emily Janszen and Emma Grace Gray each had 13 kills to lead AU offensively on the night. Lucy Kate Gray was stellar once again with 43 assists in only four sets, 9 away from her season high of 52. Riley McChord set a season high in digs tonight with 27, just missing top ten in the NCCAA with digs in a match.

Set One
The first set of the night was close until OCU took a five point swing in the middle of the set to extend their lead to 18-10. This deficit proved to be too much to recover from as AU dropped the first set, 18-25.

Set Two
Asbury came out eager to even things up in the second set, grabbing an early 11-6 lead. The start was led by multiple kills and a service ace from sophomore, Emily Janszen. An OCU run cut the AU lead to 13-12 but this was followed by multiple kills again from Janszen to regain Asbury's distance. AU finished off the set at 25-19 to even the match at 1-1.

Set Three
The crucial third set began with a 4-0 OCU run but was quickly responded by Asbury scoring 9 out of 12 to take a 9-7 lead of their own. OCU answered right back with the largest run of the night taking seven consecutive points to gain a 14-9 edge. Despite AU clawing all the way back to within one at 18-19, OCU score the final six points to go up 2-1 in the match.

Set Four
A must win fourth set for AU saw them come out poised, dominating to a convincing 14-7 lead. OCU answered this slow start by scoring 11 of the next 13 points to steal an 18-16 advantage. Asbury continue to battle to force a fifth set, chasing OCU to only down 20-21. OCU proved to be too much as they scored five of the last seven to take the final set 25-22 and match 3-1.
