Eagles Fall to Midway at Home

WILMORE, Ky.--- Emily Janszen led Asbury in kills with 8 as the Asbury volleyball team fell to Midway University on Thursday evening at the Asbury Luce Center.

Midway came into the match at 8-2 with only four lost sets in the entire season. Midway hit an impressive .242 as a team with five aces and 36 kills. Lucy Kate Gray led Asbury with 20 assists, her sister Emma Grace led AU in digs with ten and put up seven kills. Madi Bryant and Riley McChord each had two aces in the match.

Asbury Volleyball battled with Ohio Christian University (OCU) on Friday night in a road matchup in Circleville, Oh. Ohio Christian managed to find their stride and take the final two sets to secure a 3-1 victory over AU.

Asbury had one more kill than OCU at 52-51, but OCU led the evening in aces with six compared to Asbury's one. Emily Janszen and Emma Grace Gray each had 13 kills to lead AU offensively on the night. Lucy Kate Gray was stellar once again with 43 assists in only four sets, 9 away from her season high of 52. Riley McChord set a season high in digs tonight with 27, just missing top ten in the NCCAA with digs in a match.

Set One
The first set was an aggressive one as these two teams were eager to get back into competition after their matchup on September 6. Both teams went back and forth in the set, AU going toe to toe with the powerful Midway offense. Two kills by Emma Ingalls and two consecutive errors from Midway put AU in a 15-15 tie coming down the stretch of the first set. Midway responded with a four point swing to take the lead and carried this momentum to the set win, 25-18.

Set Two
Midway came out firing in the second set on an Asbury team that had battled through a hard first set to lose late. An early 15-6 lead was taken by Midway, putting AU in a challenging hole to recover from. Asbury responded by not going away with a 9-5 run that brought them within only five points, down 15-20. Despite another late three point run from AU it was Midway taking the 2-0 lead with a 25-18 win.

Set Three
Midway took an early lead again in the third set, but Asbury continued to battle their way back into the set. Multiple kills from Erin Sexauer and errors from the Midway side piled up for AU to take a late charge that saw them tying the game at 22-22. Asbury used this run to take a 26-25 lead over Midway looking for the final point to put them away. Midway's resilience proved to be too much as they found a way to take the 28-26 win and the match sweep over Asbury.
