Game Recap: Volleyball |

Eagles Sweep Defiance, 3-0

WILMORE, Ky.--- Madi Bryant and Lucy Kate Gray each produced five aces to lead AU to a 3-0 sweep over Defiance College on Saturday afternoon at the Asbury Luce Center. 

This win takes Asbury to five on the season with three of those being sweeps. Emma Grace Gray and Erin Sexauer led the Eagles in kills with 9 and 8. Lucy Kate Gray also produced another impressive game with 32 assists in only three sets of play.

Emma Ingalls and Emma Grace Gray each had two blocks to power the front line in the AU defense. Emma Grace also tied with Riley McChord in digs for the day with 9 in a spread out day for digs on the Asbury side.

Asbury hit .136 overall on the day compared to Defiance's .101. AU also used their serving ability to take 13 aces in the match. 

Set One
Defiance came out strong scoring the first four points of the day to put Asbury in an early deficit. Asbury quickly responded by five point swing of their own to take a 13-9 lead, led by two aces from Lucy Kate Gray. Right after Asbury's run Defiance found a way to move the momentum to their side as they took a convincing seven point run to give them a 17-13 lead. The set full of runs continued to produce, this time coming from Asbury with a seven point response run that was led by two aces from senior Madi Bryant. This run powered Asbury into the final points of the set as two late kills from Emily Janszen and Emma Grace Gray gave AU the 25-22 win.

Set Two
Two more aces from Lucy Kate Gray and a kill from Megan Walden led AU to an early 9-7 lead in the second set. AU continued to apply pressure throughout the set, taking a 19-16 lead that was powered by kills from Callie Goodwin, Megan Walden, and Emma Grace Gray. Emma Ingalls finished the set for AU by notching a kill to give Asbury the 27-25 win and 2-0 early lead in the match. 

Set Three
Consecutive early kills from Erin Sexauer powered Asbury to another early lead, this time 9-3 in the third set. One of Madi Bryant's five aces on the day came at the middle of the set giving Asbury a 16-6 lead. Asbury continued their efficient play throughout the entire set, never trailing as Callie Goodwin recorded two kills to finish the sweep with a 25-20 win. Erin Sexauer led AU with six of her eight kills in the third set.
