CINCINNATI, Oh. ---
The Asbury women's soccer team traveled this evening to face off against Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Oh. With kickoff at 7 pm, this was the first time in program history that the Eagles and the Lions have faced each other. Asbury fought hard throughout the match, but were unable to direct the game, dropping to MSJ 3-1.
The Eagles were unable to put up any goals in the first half, but
Delaney Long and
Maryah Jones both were able to get shots off. MSJ got off 11 shots within the first half, putting 2 in the back of the net.
Within a span of just 7 minutes, Freshman
Hannah Muncie was able to get 2 shots off for AU, both being on goal, making her SOG percentage for the game 100%. Halfway into the second period, the Lions were able to add an additional goal to the score.
With 9 minutes of play left, Junior
Genevieve Hill scored a goal for the Eagles off of a Penalty Kick. Hill played a full 90 minutes for AU, along with six of her teammates.
The final score of the game tonight was 3-1, MSJ.

- AU recorded 5 shots tonight, with 4 being on goal, giving the team a SOG% of 80%
- Asbury's goalkeepers collectively racked up 7 saves
"I know the scoreboard shows a loss, but if you felt the energy, the heart, and the pure grit that our team displayed before, during, and after the game then you would understand that this was a victory for us. The team that showed up tonight is the team that we want to be for the rest of our season."

Asbury will have yet another game on the road, facing Franklin College on September 19th. The Eagles will head to Franklin, In., and the teams will kickoff at 6 pm. TeamAU is optimistic to turn their season to the right direction, clearly stated previously by Captain
