WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury hosted Wilmington College for a doubleheader in day two of this weekend series after winning game one on Saturday. Despite Asbury holding Wilmington to only 7 runs on the day, Wilmington grabbed wins in both games over Asbury taking the series.
Game 1
Game one of the day was a pitcher's duel between the two left handed arms of Alec Lush and Aaron Boster. Lush went 5.0 innings for AU allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run with 3 strikeouts. Holten Handel handled the 6th inning, allowing only one earned run. Nate McClellan pitched the top of the 7th to hold Wilmington off with no runs scored.
Wilmington scored 1 run in the 2nd and 1 run in the 6th to take a 2-0 lead over AU, which were their only two runs of the game. Aaron Boster for Wilmington was a challenge for the AU offense to solve, as he pitched a complete game allowing only 1 run. The run for AU was in the bottom of the 6th on a sacrifice fly from Colton Perkins scoring Nathaniel Frank.
Game 2
Game two of the day, the rubber match of the series was another close game between these two clubs. Jackson Cole got the ball for AU and went 6.0 innings allowing only 4 earned runs with no walks and 4 strikeouts.Â
Wilmington got off to an early start again scoring 2 runs in the first inning to put AU behind. This time the Eagles came roaring back with a run in the 3rd and 2 runs in the 4th to take the lead, 3-2.Â
Wilmington came right back in the top of the 5th with 4 hits to score 2 runs and take the lead back over AU, 4-3. In the bottom of the 8th AU had their chance as they loaded the bases with no outs, but could not come away with any runs in the inning. In the bottom of the 9th Matthew Baker smacked a line drive caught by the pitcher that doubled up Noah Brown to end the game, indicative of the AU offensive challenges throughout the day.Â
