Baseball Slips in Midweek Game to UC-Clermont

WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury traveled to Batavia, OH on Tuesday to face the University of Cincinnati-Clermont. Despite AU coming out strong scoring the first 5 runs of the game, UC-Clermont rallied back to eventually walk this game off in the 9th, 8-7.

The AU offense jumped out in a hurry, scoring 5 runs in the first inning. The inning consisted of three singles from Jackson Cole, Walker Paris, and Jackson Cole, and topped off by a Nathaniel Frank 2 RBI double. Parker Burge and Matthew Johnson also produced RBIs in the inning.

From this point on AU was cooled down from the UC-Clermont bullpen, while the Clermont offense picked up speed. Walker Paris gave AU 2 scoreless innings on the mound to start the game, but Clermont grabbed 3 unearned runs in the 3rd off Jackson Cole to get back in the game.

Ethan Cartwright drove in a 2 out RBI for Asbury in the 7th to extend their lead to 7-5, but this would be Asbury's last run. UC-Clermont collected 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at 7, and then scored a run in the bottom of the 9th to win the game over Asbury, 8-7.

* Walker Paris was 3-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Paris also pitched 2 innings of scoreless work

* Matthew Baker went 2-3 with a double, a walk, HBP, a run scored, and an RBI

* Nathaniel Frank and Kaden Dugle each had 2 hits in the game, with a double a piece, Frank with 2 RBIs

* Nate McClellan pitched the 8th for AU striking out 2 and allowing nobody on base

* Asbury's offense collected 12 hits in the game, scoring 5 runs in the first inning

* AU committed 4 errors on defense

* The Eagles left 13 runners on base

"Our offense came out very strong today which was great to see for us. Credit to UC-Clermont for continuing to play the game well and claw their way back. It is tough one to lose for sure after being up early, but we will use it to make us better and move forward into a big series against MUW this weekend."

     * Assistant Coach Colton Back

Asbury will travel to Milligan, TN this weekend to play MUW in a three-game series starting Friday at 5 PM
