LOOKOUT MTN, Ga. --- The AU Men's Basketball team traveled to Lookout Mtn., Ga. to compete against the Covenant College Scotties on Tuesday night. Covenant came into the contest on a five game winning streak, but they were facing an Eagle team that had won it's past six games. Covenant has been playing well all season bringing a 14-6 overall and 9-2 conference record into Tuesday (8-2 on their home court). These two teams met in the very first game of the season on Covenant's home court, Covenant barely pulled out the win by four over AU.Â
Covenant came into this game hitting on all cylinders, on the other hand it was a challenging shooting night for the Eagles. The Scotties took a 14-2 lead over AU within the first five minutes which would make it very difficult for AU to recover the rest of the night. Asbury did make a strong push at the end of the first half going on a 12-3 run over Covenant to shorten the deficit to twelve (40-28).Â
Starting the second half Covenant picked back up on their offensive efficiency scoring 12 points in the first five minutes of the half. AU would continue to fight but it wasn't there night as they couldn't keep up with the hot shooting of Covenant. The incredible winning streak came to an end as AU would take their first loss in over a month (Jan. 12.)

*Â Nick Fort led AU in scoring with 22 and added 13 reb (Nick's 11th consecutive double-double and 15th of the season)
* Eric Powell provided 15 pts for the Eagles, knocking down two 3-pointers and collecting 3 reb
* Covenant's Chris Barnette was 8-11 from the field and 4-4 from three scoring 21 pts

* AUÂ shot 33% from the field in the game while Covenant shot 59%
* Covenant's 52% shooting from three held AU at distance on the runs they attempted to make
*Â AU still managed to turn Covenant over ten times

"We took a tough loss tonight, Covenant was ready to battle and had a great game plan for us. We didn't shoot the ball at a high percentage and couldn't ever find a rhythm on offense. We are back in action on Thursday and will be ready to go."
   * Assistant Coach Jarrin Taul

Asbury will look to bounce back in a key home game at the Luce Thursday against Campbellsville-Harrodsburg which will be Senior Night & Ray Shouse Night.
