Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Asbury Defeated by No. 3 Campbellsville

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury women's basketball hosted No. 3 in the NAIA, Campbellsville University this evening, and was unable to match their offensive power, falling to the Tigers.

Trinity Shearer led the Eagles in scoring with 15 points. Shearer also grabbed three steals on the night and three boards. Tiffani Riley sat behind Shearer with nine points (season-high) and four rebounds for the night.

Asbury showed up ready to play coming off a win last week against Sewanee, but Campbellsville's offense outperformed the Eagles by shooting almost 60% from the field. Campbellsville scored 64 points in the pain on the night compared to Asbury's 32.

Although Campbellsville put 24 on the board in the first quarter, AU trailed closely scoring 17 of their own. Trinity Shearer and Haleigh Releford both helped lead that push by AU with four points and one assist apiece for the quarter. The first quarter ended with Campbellsville ahead of Asbury 24-17.

Campbellsville exploded in the second quarter by tallying 32 points with Kaitlynn Wilks, Kayla Luebbe, and Elizabeth Bertram all recording six points each. Senior Meagan Bellamy for Asbury was able to put six away from the quarter with two threes, leading AU in the second. Campbellsville held their lead at the end of the second 56-29.

The Tiger offense continued it's form in the third quarter, putting up 21 points to get them to 77. Asbury's offense continued to struggle, only going 4-15 in the third for 11 points. AU went 0-6 from three in the quarter.

AU found some momentum in the fourth and matched Campbellsville at 19 points. Trinity Shearer helped with the push recording six points in the quarter as well as Tiffani Riley with five. Even though Asbury was able to hold CU for the fourth, Campbellsville ultimately came out with the win, in a 96-59 game.

With tonight's loss, Asbury moves to 6-5 for the season.

STORY - QUOTE
"We were beaten in every facet of the game, but it begins with me. The good thing is that this wasn't the end of the year and that we get to go back in, see what we need to correct, and still have more games left to play.

Campbellsville is the number 3 team in the country for a reason. If we learn from this game, then tonight was worth it."
Chad Mayes | Head Coach
