Asbury Fall Sports Highlighted in NCCAA Awards

Asbury Fall Sports Highlighted in NCCAA Awards

GREENVILLE, SC.--- Over 30 Asbury Athletics fall student-athletes were highlighted by the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) for their performance on the field and in the classroom during their 2022 seasons. The awards from the NCCAA include Scholar-Athletes (juniors, seniors, and graduate students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.40), All-Regional Teams, and All-Americans.

Women's Soccer
Nine Asbury women's soccer members were honored as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes for their strong performance in the classroom. Among those honored were Caroline Absher, Carlie Alvis, Madelyne Boehnlein, Rilen Gettings, Genevieve Hill, Milli Moore, Isabelle Peterson, Audrey Van Lieu, and Maya Thomas

Junior forward Genevieve Hill and freshman forward Hannah Muncie were each named to the NCCAA Mideast All-Regional team for their stellar play. Hill and Muncie tied for a team-high five goals, one assist, and 11 points apiece to lead Asbury's offense in the 2022 campaign.

Men's Soccer
The NCCAA highlighted four Asbury men's soccer members as Scholar-Athletes including Aaron Crombie, Micah Harper, Yannick Landwehr, Jason Law, Lucas Lee, Rex Nagel and Micah Schneider.

Senior forwards Micah Schneider and Sammy Abraham produced impressive seasons and were named NCCAA Mideast All-Regional Team. Schneider led AU in goals with a career-high in nine for the season. Abraham also produced a career-high in goals with six, dishing four assists as well. 

Men's Golf
Senior from Aquascalenties, Mexico, Victor Vargas was honored as a 2022 NCCAA Scholar-Athlete. 

Sophomore Garrett Sturges shot three over in the final round of the NCCAA National Championship to secure his second straight year being named an NCCAA All-American.

Women's Golf 
For the women's golf team it was senior Gracie Turner and junior Maddie Heineman being honored for their excellence in the classroom as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes.

Maddie Heineman represented the AU women's golf team by qualifying to compete in the NCCAA National Championship in Palm Coast, Fl.

Volleyball
Asbury volleyball was highlighted by the NCCAA as Madi Bryant, Emma Ingalls, Hannah Morris, and Erin Sexauer received NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors. 

Freshman Lucy Kate Gray recorded 52 assists in a single game on September 20 against Rio Grande, putting Gray tied for first in the NCCAA for a time. Another freshman Riley McChord finished the season in the top ten in the NCCAA for aces in a 4-set match with six. McChord also produced 274 digs to lead Asbury in her freshman campaign. 

Men's Cross Country
Asbury men's cross country had five runners honored as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes including Tyler Chong, Nathan Thallman, Owen Vick, Luke Wheatley, and Ian Wilkinson.

AU was also represented by sophomore Will Durrance and junior Wes Preston being named NCCAA All-Americans for their performance in the NCCAA Cross Country National Championship. 

Women's Cross Country
Asbury women's cross country received six NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors including Elle Hooper, Hannah Hopkins, Kyla Rowell, Elisabeth Terpstra, and Carolina Trumpower

Senior Carolina Trumpower was also named an NCCAA All-American for the second straight year for her success on the course.
