Asbury Stays Undefeated with 19 Three's to Beat UC-Clermont

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- The Asbury men's basketball team continued their undefeated start to the 2022-23 season knocking down 19 3's on Wednesday night to beat UC-Clermont at home, 98-71. Asbury is now 4-0 for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

AU went 19-29 from three, shooting a scorching 65.5% from behind the line alongside their field goal percentage at 62.1%. The 19 3's for Asbury are the most in a game in the past four seasons, with ten different Eagles making a three.

6-Foot-6 forward Nick Fort led all scorers with 25, going 9-10 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc with nine rebounds and four assists. Fort's last two games have combined for 47 points and 25 rebounds.

Junior guard Caleb Wallis continued his stunning start for AU with 17 points going 7-10 from the field and 2-2 from three, dishing five assists as well. John Shoulders took five shots on the night, all from three and made four of them for 12 points. Shoulders now has ten made three's in the first four games for AU.

Ashton Owens, the transfer guard from Trinity, Al., made three three's scoring a season-high nine points. Ben McNew continued his efficient three-point shooting knocking down both of his attempts, making him now 8-14 in four games for Asbury.

UC-Clermont came out early to take a lead over Asbury 7-1. Asbury quickly scored on their next four possessions to regain the lead they wouldn't give up. Consecutive three's from Caleb Wallis and Nick Fort gave Asbury a six point cushion they continued to build on throughout the first half.

AU only allowed 31 points in the half to UC-Clermont and capped off an electric offensive half with a Dakota Walden three that took them to 51.

Asbury's offense continued to perform in the second half, scoring 23 points in the first ten minutes of the half to take a 74-44 lead.

AU finished up the explosive offensive night with 98 points off of the most three point shots an Asbury team has made in over four seasons. The Eagles took their second home victory of the year and fourth straight win to start the season 98-71.
