Trumpower, Durrance, & Preston Named All-Americans; XC Finishes Top Five in NCCAA National Championship

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
JOPLIN, Mo.--- Carolina Trumpower, Will Durrance, and Wes Preston each earned NCCAA All-American honors on Friday as the Asbury cross country teams rose to the occasion for two top five overall finishes in the NCCAA National Championship.

Senior leader Carolina Trumpower ran her fastest time ever by 12 seconds (18:26.6) solidifying her spot as the second fastest performer ever on the Asbury all-time list. Trumpower took fourth place out of 54 runners, earning NCCAA All-American honors for the second consecutive year.

Sophomore Will Durrance took fourth place out of 47 runners to set a new Asbury school record (25:37.4) that he had been chasing all season previously held by Neal Butler. Butler set the record in 1987 at the NCCAA national championship meet. Durrance's finish confirms him as an NCCAA All-American in his opening season at Asbury.

After missing out on All-American honors last year by less than a second, junior captain Wes Preston was able to hang on to earn the All-American spot by just over a second (26:21.2) . Preston's time moved him into eighth place on the Asbury all-time list.

The Asbury men's team finished third overall in the NCCAA Division 1 8K race out of six teams. The men were led by Durrance and Preston in the top ten, next to place was freshman Davis Brown in 18th (27:12.4). Junior Luke Wheatley finished next in 29th (27:56.0), then Ian Wilkinson (28:41.7) and Daniel Kersey (28:50.8) in 38th and 39th. Tyler Chong (29:36.6) and Owen Vick (29:50.3) rounded off the Asbury men's team on the day.

Davis Brown, Luke Wheatley, Dan Kersey, and Owen Vick each ran the fastest time of their career.

The cold temperatures and early morning start didn't slow down the Asbury women's team as six of their seven runners set new PR's, some breaking their times from last year at the national championship in much better conditions.

Freshman Ava Miller finished 15th in the race with an impressive time of 19:33.4 to finish her stellar freshman season. Miller knocked 40 seconds off her previous best and is now the fifth fastest performer ever for Asbury women's cross country. Next to finish for AU was Elise Terpstra at 25th and then Katherine Stanley at 26th. Sophomore Sarah Yost finished in the top 30 by a two second margin, followed by Della Nevitt at 35th and Lucy Bryson at 40th.

Sarah Yost, Della Nevitt, Elise Terpstra, Lucy Bryson, all ran their best time ever.

Both the men and women were ranked sixth going into today's meet and were able to place third and fourth to exceed expectations in the NCCAA National Championship.
