ANGOLA, In. --- This afternoon, women's soccer traveled North to Angola, In., to take on Trine University. The teams kicked off at 3 pm.
This was the first opportunity that the Eagles have had to compete against the Thunder in program history, setting both teams hungry for the first victory over the new matchup.
Today Trine proved to be a more difficult matchup for Asbury, and after an effortful 90 minutes of play from both teams, AU was defeated 5-1.
Just 3 minutes from the start, Asbury's
Hannah Muncie placed a shot on goal, but was saved by one of Trine's defensive players.
Trine answered back with 3 shots in a row, and a fourth that found its' way to the back of the net, setting a lead of 1-0.
Throughout the next 20 minutes, Trine put up two more goals for their team, setting the score as 3-0.
Asbury was able to respond with an unassisted goal by
Hannah Muncie.
Muncie also put up a goal in the Eagles' prior game against Maryville College, earning herself a current goal streak of 2.
With only 10 minutes left, this concluded the action for the first period, sending the teams into the half with a score of 3-1, Trine.
Eighteen minutes of play into the second period, Trine placed the final two goals of the game, sealing the fate of the match.
The last 45 minutes of the game; however, the Eagles were able to push harder offensively, getting a total of 7 shots off, placing 6 on goal.
This gave the Eagles a SOG percentage of 86% in the second period.
AU pressed on and created scoring opportunities throughout the second period, but were unable to get past the Thunder's goalkeeper Sophie Aschemeier, who holds a save percentage of 79%.

This completed the afternoon's match as 5-1, Trine.
