SEASON PREVIEW: 2022 Asbury Men's and Women's Swimming
WILMORE, Ky. - The Asbury University men’s and women's swimming team is geared up for their 2022 season, featuring a total of 13 meets for TeamAU, until they enter the Liberal Arts Conference Championship, which will be a 4 day event held in Elsah, Il. Additionally, AU will compete in the Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational in November, as well as the Colonel Classic in January. Entering his first year as head coach for the Eagles, Graham Duncan expressed his excitement for the year. Duncan stated, "we have a great mix of veterans and newcomers with a lot of talent and a lot of heart. Going into my first year as a head coach, I can’t imagine a better group to work with. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Lord uses this year and this team for His purpose and I can’t wait to see what He has in store for us.”
Both the men's and women's teams had a phenomenal ending to the 2021-22 season, winning the Liberal Arts Championship. AU ended the final day of the Championship with 6 wins out of the 12 events. The women's team earned a 3-peat in conference titles and the men's team won their first conference title since 2009.
Duncan spoke highly of his athletes, who he believes will each have a crucial part in helping the team succeed, not only from the standpoint of performance, but team culture as well.
The Eagles only lost 4 swimmers in their graduating class since last season, and have 23 returners collectively between the men's and women's teams.
The team's returners will be crucial to the Eagles' success this year, and will all be contributers to build the culture and success of Asbury Swimming.
AU is also bringing in 9 promising newcomers to their teams this year, who are not only expected to add talent to the 2022-23 season, but future seasons to come.
Among the combination of new eager head coach Duncan, as well as so many veterans on the team, Asbury is stepping into an exciting season, where they are predicted to have a successful performance.
