Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Defeated at Home Against Depauw

Wilmore, Ky. --- The Men's Soccer team was finally able to have a match here at home this morning after being on the road for their past three games. The Eagles took on the Depauw Tigers with a kickoff time of 11 AM, their earliest game of the season. Asbury Athletics was jam-packed today with many different sports having matches, meets, and alumni games and Men's Soccer was able to kick off the day with their morning match. Depauw took an early lead with two goals in the first half and was able to put another away in the second, ultimately giving them a 3-0 win over the Eagles.

Beginning the first half, the Tigers took an offensive lead, having 7 shots in the first half. Depauw took an early goal in the 11th minute to give them a 1-0 lead with 34 minutes in the half. AU continued to battle and was able to record four shots in the half by Luke Thomas, Austin Dunlap, and Oliver Gunthorpe with two of them. Depauw recorded another goal in the 21st minute to secure a 2-0 lead for the half.

In response to Depauw's offensive push in the first, Head Coach, Ben Andrews and the Eagle's coaching staff took the half results into consideration and made quick decisions to change and tweak AU's play style for the second half. The changes were evident in their effectiveness as they came out with a driving force to begin the second half, determined to create more chances for themselves. AU recorded five shots for the half by Austin Dunlap, Micah Schneider, and Ryan Kim with three of those five shots. Despite AU taking control at the beginning of the half, Depauw was able to respond and put another away in the 81st minute. The Eagles defense and keeper, Collin McKibben who recorded six impressive saves for the match, helped keep the Tigers from putting anymore away.

  • Asbury recorded nine shots with three being on goal.
  • Ryan Kim led the board with three shots from the match.
  • Collin McKibben tallied six saves this morning.

"I think we started the game a little on our heels and got caught on the defensive, but definitely found a spark in the second half, but struggled to put away our chances. We made a quick tactical formation switch and the guys were able to quickly and seamlessly adapt to that system. Moving forward, since we saw bright moments with the formation change, we'll definitely be looking to build on that and see if we can't add something more to our arsenal."
