Eagles Secure 2-1 Road Win at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tn. --- The Asbury men's soccer team secured a key 2-1 victory on Friday night over Maryville College in Maryville, Tn.

First half goals from freshman Luke Thomas (2), and senior Micah Schneider (7) led Asbury to the road win. Schneider continues to pour in goals for AU in his senior campaign, now with seven on the year.

Maryville's offense had been on a tear scoring seven goals in their previous two games, but were held to only one goal tonight by the Asbury defense. Collin McKibben stood in goal for 90 minutes for Asbury making four saves to help AU hold on to the victory.

Asbury's first goal came only 12 minutes into the match when sophomore, Nick Clark put in a brilliant ball that found the head of Luke Thomas who finished the goal with a sharp header. This is Clark's team leading sixth assist of the season, making him tied for second in the entire NCCAA, one assist behind first.

AU waited only 20 minutes to strike again, this time with the sneaky left foot of Micah Schneider who put a one time strike into the right corner of goal to give Asbury the 2-0 lead. This goal takes Scneider to seventh overall in goals in the NCCAA with seven.

Just before the end of the first half Maryville used a corner kick to force Asbury into a foul that set Maryville up with a penalty kick. Colin McKibben found a way to save the initial penalty kick from Maryville but Ndubueze Henry followed the play and put the ball in for Maryville, cutting their deficit to 1-2.

Maryville came out in the second half charging offensively, taking 13 overall shots in the half compared to Asbury's 2. The Asbury defense stood strong for the entire 45 minutes, keeping Maryville out of their goal and taking the 2-1 victory.
