BEREA, Ky. --- The Asbury Men's Soccer team traveled to Berea, Ky. tonight and secured a 4-0 shutout against Berea College. The Eagles have been facing off with the Mountaineers since 2005 and have not seen a loss yet. Tonight's victory gives the Eagles a total of 15 wins against the Mountaineers throughout the years.Â
Asbury used their momentum from last Saturday's win against Maryville to put four goals away tonight.
Micah Schneider,
Austin Dunlap,
Daniel Shelton, and
Ryan Kim were all able to put one in the back of the net, resulting in a 4-0 win for the Eagles.Â
AU was determined to get an early lead, with
Micah Schneider scoring an early goal in the 4th minute, assisted by
Daniel Shelton. This goal put Schneider at eight total goals for the season, as well as putting him at number 10 in the NCCAA for goals. Asbury continued to push for a lead and put one away in the 19th minute by
Austin Dunlap, assisted by
Luke Thomas. AU's offense dominated the remainder of the half, tallying a total of 14 shots for the half and holding strong to the 2-0 lead. The Eagle's defense and
Collin McKibben held the Mountaineers to only five shots for the half.
Seven minutes into the second half,
Daniel Shelton scored off of a penalty kick, bringing AU to a 3-0 lead with 36 minutes left in the match. Berea totaled five more shots for the half, managing to put four of them on goal, but
Collin McKibben denied every shot and recorded four saves for the half. Still explosive from their lead in the first half, AU continued to fight to put another away and was successful when
Ryan Kim found the back of the net, assisted by
Bryan Ortiz in the 74th minute.
The Eagles and
Collin McKibben allowed nothing else from the Mountaineers for the rest of the match, securing a 4-0 victory and another clean sheet in the books. After tonights match,
Collin McKibben is now 8th in the NCCAA for shutouts per game.Â

- Austin Dunlap recorded his fourth goal of the season.
- Daniel Shelton tallied his first goal and assist of the 2022 season, as well as his first collegite goal.

- Bryan Ortiz racked in his first assist of the season.Â
- Collin McKibben held the Berea offense to a scoreless match, and recorded another clean sheet.Â

"I think it was a good game for us all around. There were moments when it looked better than it has all season so that was encouraging. Most importantly, we continued to build momentum for the last few games. We'll be ready for Saturday."
