WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University softball team opened River States Conference play on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep over Point Park University at home.
The Eagles took game one 5-2 and dominated game two for a 14-6 (F/6) victory. Asbury has won four consecutive games and is 2-0 in league play as they improve to 10-14 on the year.
AU is back in play tomorrow against Carlow at 1 & 3 PM at home.
Game one
*PPU took a 2-0 lead after scoring runs in the top of the first and third, but the Eagles would shut the door and not allow the Pioneers to cross the plate the rest of the game.
*The Eagles tied up the game in the fifth after
Madison Moss connected on a two-RBI single to center scoring both
Abby Fletcher and
Harley Wagoner.
*In the sixth, Fletcher's two-RBI single scored
Brynna Reynolds and
Bree Sanders to give the Eagles a 4-2 lead.
*Wagoner's RBI double moments later put AU up 5-2 as they scored three runs on four hits in the half-inning.
*
Ally Moore pitched a complete game and struck out seven to record the victory in the circle.
*Fletcher notched her fourth multi-hit game of the year and
Olivia Judy also totaled two hits in the victory.
Game two
*AU came out with a great effort in game two as they took a big lead early and never took their foot off the gas.
*The Eagles scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the 2
nd. The inning was highlighted by two-RBI singles from
Brynna Reynolds and
Jenni Beasley.
*PPU closed the gap down to one run in the third, scoring four runs on three hits.
*However, Asbury regrouped and extended the lead out to 11-4 after a six-run inning highlighted by a two-run HR to right field from
Taylor Enlow.
*Leading 11-6 in the sixth, AU scored three runs to win the game by run rule.
Chandler Kelly's RBI single up the middle scored
Madilyn Choate to secure the victory.
*Enlow picked up the win on the mound as she went 4.1 innings with
Abby Ponder pitching the remainder of the contest in relief.
*The Eagles' bats recorded 12 hits in game two with
Madison Moss, Enlow, Beasley, Reynolds, and Kelly all tallying multi-hit games with two hits each.
*Beasley led the way with four RBI, while Moss posted three RBI in the win.
