WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University softball team split its Saturday doubleheader with non-conference opponent St. Francis on Saturday in Wilmore.
The Eagles fell in extra innings (8) in game one by a score of 3-1, but bounced back nicely with a 5-4 victory in the final game.
Asbury is now 4-8 on the year and will travel to Pikeville on Tuesday for a doubleheader at 1 & 3 PM.
Game one
*Behind another strong pitching effort from
Ally Moore, the Eagles were able to hold USF scoreless in six of the eight innings played.
*Moore pitched eight full innings, striking out four on 112 pitches.
*The Cougars scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth, but the Eagles would tie it up as
Brynna Reynolds' RBI scored
Madison Moss to even the game in the bottom of the fifth.
*Neither team would score in the sixth or seventh inning, so the game was extended into extras.
*In the eighth, USF scored two runs off consecutive RBI singles to take a 3-1 lead.
*Asbury was held to just three hits as Moss posted another multi-hit game with two.
Olivia Judy also connected on a single for the third hit.
Game two
*Asbury got out to a quick 5-0 lead after scoring five runs on three hits.
Taylor Enlow's two RBI double that nearly went over the fence for a grand slam, scored Moss and Reynolds.
*Later in the inning,
Abby Fletcher and Enlow would score and then
Harley Wagoner would bring home another run off an RBI double.
*AU would never score again the rest of the game, but were able to hold off the Cougars, who trailed 5-2 heading into the seventh.
*St. Francis would score two runs in the inning and had the leading run on first base, but the Eagles were able to get the final out as
Abby Ponder recorded the save.

McKenzie Meyer pitched six full innings and earned the win in the circle, marking her second win as a starting pitcher this season.
