WILMORE, Ky. – Despite playing with a reduced roster due to COVID, the Asbury University women's basketball team put together a gutsy effort and defeated Oakland City 82-72 in the River States Conference Championship quarterfinals at the Luce Center on Wednesday evening.
With the victory, the Eagles improve to 14-5 and will advance to the River States Conference Championship semifinals on Saturday. The Eagles will host WVU Tech who defeated Midway this evening.

Trinity Shearer led Asbury with a season-high 20 points on 7-14 shooting. The freshman knocked down six threes and collected six rebounds and six assists.

Paige Taylor finished with 19 points, while
Emma Strunk added 13 points.

Kayla Harlow scored a season-high 10 points and notched nine rebounds.

*AU forced Oakland City into committing 13 turnovers as they added 15 points scored off turnovers.

*Trailing 30-24 in the second quarter, Asbury found their groove offensively and ended the half with a big 13-6 run to lead 37-36 at the break.
*In the third period, it was all AU as they took over the game and outscored Oakland City 26-11.
*Leading 49-43, the Eagles blew the game open with a 13-0 to take a commanding 62-43 lead.
*The Eagles led by as much as 20 with 7 minutes to play in the fourth, following a pair of free throws from
Paige Taylor.
*Oakland City made one final push in the closing minutes, but AU would maintain a double-digit advantage the remainder of the contest.
