Women's Hoops Cruises Past Covenant, 94-62

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.— On Friday night, the Asbury Women's Basketball team traveled to Lookout Mountain, GA, to take on the Division III Covenant College Scots.

Asbury collects their fourth consecutive victory with a decisive 94-62 win at Covenant College. The Eagle's overall record improves to 8-2 on the year with the win while the Scots drop to 6-3.

The Eagles built a led in the first quarter but used a dominating second quarter to pull away from the Scots. AU out-scored Covenant in the second quarter, as they shot 61 percent from the field.

The Eagle's offense was potent, but their defense made things difficult for Scot's offense. Covenant committed 25 turnovers while the Eagles used that to their advantage and scored 28 points off of their turnovers.

AU continued to keep their lead throughout the match to secure the win.

* Sarah Dennison was an important factor for the Eagles and led them to score 23 points and bring in three rebounds.

Autumn Herriford would end the night with three points and grab eight rebounds and eight assists.

*Jaclynn Ruble collected 15 points and three steals, while Trinity Shearer added six points and one steal.

*Both Tiffani Riley and Celia Pelfrey tabbed 11 points apiece.

* The Eagles shot 46 percent from the floor and were 50 percent from the free-throw line.

* Along with the 18 made threes, the Eagles scored 30 points inside the paint and finished with 18 steals altogether.

*Covenant out-rebounded AU only by a small margin of 46-43.

"Tonight was a team win. We got into foul trouble early in the first half, so we got out of our normal rotation, but the ladies were prepared to go in and contribute.

SD gave us a tremendous lift early, but I would expect nothing less from her. She's a senior who is a great leader and has been through some wars here in her four years. I was so proud of her and the team in general!"
-Head Coach Chad Mayes

Asbury is back in action on the road at Berry College on Saturday at 4 PM.
