WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University softball team split its Saturday doubleheader with (RV) St. Francis in non-conference play at the Cecil Zweifel Softball Complex. AU won the first game 9-7, but dropped game two 5-1.
Through 10 games, the Eagles are .500 at 5-5. Asbury has also accumulated 14 homeruns on the year which surpasses last year's HR totals.
Additionally, senior
Deana Phillips currently leads the NAIA in home runs on the season with eight.
Game one
*After giving up two runs in the top of the first, AU answered with runs to tie up the game.
*
Chandler Kelly's RBI double put Asbury on the board first, followed by a sacrifice fly from
Harley Wagoner.
*USF would retake the lead and led 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
*
Maddie Burke got things started with a double to left and then
Deana Phillips smacked her seventh HR of the year to tie up the game.
*The Eagles took the lead back later in the inning off an RBI single from
Caitlyn Taylor.
*Asbury's bats continued to stay hot and added four more runs of insurance in the sixth.
*Burke drilled a two-run home run with Phillips hitting her second HR of the day pushed the lead out to 8-4.
*AU added one more run in the inning off a dropped popup.
*St. Francis scored three runs in the seventh and tried to tie up the game, but
McKenzie Meyer came in and collected the save and preserved the win.

Paige Hill recorded the win in the circle for the Eagles.
*Asbury posted 11 hits in total as Burke, Phillips, and Taylor each tallied a multi-hit game. Taylor also finished with a season-high three hits.
Game two
*Asbury took an early 1-0 lead after an RBI from
Paige Hill scoring
Bree Sanders.
*One run was enough to hold the lead for the first three innings, as
Ally Moore tossed three shutout innings of work to start the game.
*However, USF would break through in the fourth inning. Costly errors from AU allowed St. Francis to take the lead at 2-1.
*USF added another score in the fifth and two runs in the sixth. Asbury finished the game with three errors.
*Moore and
Katie Franklin saw action in the circle in game two. Moore pitched five full innings while Franklin tossed the final two.
*The duo gave up zero earned runs.
*Asbury was limited to only three hits and the Eagles also stranded seven base runners.

Asbury will return to action on Friday against Rochester University at home.
