Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Contest with Taylor

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University women's lacrosse fell 17-13 at home to Taylor University on Friday afternoon in non-conference play.

The Eagles had to battle high winds and cold temperatures all afternoon long and were unable to pull off a second-half rally.

Inside the Matchup
AU drops its first game of the year and moves to 2-1 on the season. Taylor records its first win of the year and is 1-0.

Highlights
*The Trojans scored the first three goals of the contest to take a quick 3-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes.
*Aubrey Curell scored the first goal for Asbury, but TU would respond with two more unanswered goals.
*Down 5-1, the Eagles fought back into the game with three consecutive goals from Ashley Byrd, Katherine Ivey, and Mia Doron which made it a 5-4 game.
*Taylor led 7-4 at the break and would add four straight goals to build a 9-4 lead early in the second half.
*Curell and Grace Tatro scored every goal for the Eagles' offense in the second half. Currell posted six goals scored in the final 20 minutes of action.
*Asbury fell behind 14-7, but reeled off four straight goals and reduced the deficit to just three at 14-11.
*However, the Eagles were unable to close the margin from three in the final eight minutes.

Key Stats
*Aubrey Curell led the way for the Eagles' attack with a team-high seven goals. Curell also posted nine shots on-goal along with winning five draw controls and causing two turnovers.
*Grace Tatro scored three goals with five draw controls and four ground balls. The Louisville, Ky. native led the Eagles with three assists on the day.
*Mia Doron, Ashley Byrd, and Katherine Ivey each tabbed one goal apiece. Doron posted two assists and four draw controls.
*Taylor outshot AU 35-32 and converted on five free position shot goals.
*The Eagles were limited to only one free position shot goal.
 
 Next Up
Asbury hosts Columbia College on Tuesday for their first conference game of the year. The match is slated for a 4 PM start.
