Eagles Fight Past Great Lakes Christian, Move to 4-1

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University men's basketball team bounced back with a 93-87 win on Monday afternoon at home against Great Lakes Christian at the Luce.

AU moves to 4-1 on the year and improve to 2-1 in home contests so far this season. The Crusaders suffer their first loss of the year.

Asbury shot nearly 60 percent from the floor and scored 15 points off turnovers as GLC committed 22 throughout the game.

Key Stats
*Four Eagles finished in double figures scoring to pace the Eagles on Monday.
*Leander Ridgeway led Asbury in scoring for the second straight game with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
*Nick Fort recorded his third double-double of the year and finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Shelbyville, Ky. native dished out a team-high six assists in the victory.
*John Shoulders scored a career-high 19 points on 5-7 shooting from the field. Shoulders finished the game 6-7 from the free throw line.
*Jamiel Goliday went 5-8 from three-point territory and finished with 15 points.
*Dakota Walden and Siah Holified added nine and eight points respectively.
*As a team, AU shot a season-high 33-58 from the floor for 56 percent. The Eagles were also 52 percent shooting from three with nine made attempts on the day.
*AU did a good job of drawing fouls, but struggled at the foul line finishing only 18-35.

Highlights
*Asbury held a 13-10 lead early on before bursting ahead with a 15-5 for a 28-15 lead.
*The Eagles shot 17-30 from the field in the first 20 minutes and maintained their double-digit lead and led 46-36 at the break.
*The second half had plenty of scoring on both sides as the two teams combined for 98 points in the half.
*A layup in the paint from Leander Ridgeway gave AU a 61-47 lead with under 15 minutes left to play.
*Great Lakes Christian's 23-9 run over the next seven minutes cut their deficit down to just three at 73-70.
*Leander Ridgeway scored 10 points in the final five minutes of the game to help close out the game and seal the victory for the Eagles.
 
Next Up
Asbury will stay at home and play host to IU Southeast on Thursday in River States Conference play. Tip-off is slated for a 6 PM start time.
