WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University men's basketball team picked up a 72-50 victory over Johnson University on Monday evening at the Luce Center, as the Eagles began their 2020-21 season.
Tonight's win marks the first time since the 2016-17 season that Asbury has won its season-opener.
Highlights
*The Eagles spread the ball around and found good looks inside the lane and from beyond the arc as they held an 18-12 lead through the first six minutes of play.
*AU maintained a 24-14 edge with under six minutes left in the opening half.
*Asbury tallied 12 points inside the paint and knocked down four threes in the first frame to secure a 32-25 lead at the break.
*Holding a 37-31 lead, a 12-4 run pushed Asbury ahead to its largest lead of the game at 14 with a 49-35 edge with under 10 minutes left in regulation.
*AU continued to stay hot and built a 16-6 run to take a commanding 65-41 lead.

*Asbury out-rebounded Johnson by a margin of 45-39 and shot just under 40 percent from the field.
*The Eagles finished with 40 points inside the paint and totaled 15 points scored off turnovers.
